Introducing Android™ 14

Enhanced PIN security

Although there is a 4-digit PIN minimum, starting on Android 14 your device will now recommend you set a 6-digit PIN to strengthen the security of your device credentials. Plus, you can choose to have your phone automatically unlock once you finish typing in the correct 6-digit or longer PIN, so that you can unlock your device without friction.

Data sharing updates

With data sharing updates on Android 14, users get easy-to-understand information about apps’ data collection and sharing leveraged from Google Play’s “Data safety” section, and can make more informed decisions when they choose to grant data permissions to apps. Now, when you’re asked to grant apps permission to information like your location you will be notified when an app is sharing location data with third-parties and can make a more informed decision on whether or not to grant access.

*Works with compatible apps.

Flash notifications

Now on Android 14 you can turn on Flash notifications from the Accessibility and Notifications settings and get visual light flashes using your camera and screen light when you have incoming notifications. Flash notifications will respect your silent or do not disturb preferences.

Nonlinear font size scaling

Users can now scale up their font size to 200% and larger fonts will scale up more slowly than smaller fonts with nonlinear font size scaling. This means the main priority is to increase smaller text sizes so users can read it with less negative impact to their screen layouts and formatting.

Improved magnification

The improved magnifier on Android 14 is more intuitive with the ability to pinch to zoom in and out from 100%. You can change the magnifier size in a new Magnifier Settings panel and customize how much of the screen you’d like to be magnified. You can also set your magnification to “Keep on when switching apps” in Accessibility settings so that your magnifier doesn’t turn off when switching apps.

Note that it may take some time for the update process to complete. It will not be possible to use your device during this time. This includes not being able to make emergency calls.
